On the nose, cask strength combines with rye's characteristic spice: black pepper, ginger, fresh mint, cinnamon, leather and a hint of vanilla and caramel imparted by the toasted oak. The palate is powerful and structured, with rye's vibrancy perfectly counterbalanced by the vanilla notes of the additional maturation. The finish is long, spiced and persistent. A few drops of water are recommended to open the whiskey up.
