Port Ellen 22 Year Old 1st Release 1979 – The first edition from the ghost distillery
The Port Ellen distillery, on the island of Islay, closed its doors in 1983 and has since become the most mythologised and coveted name in the world of whisky. Each year, Diageo releases an extremely limited number of bottles from its remaining reserves. The 1st Release, distilled in 1979, was the world's very first encounter with the Port Ellen style: smoky, maritime, floral and possessed of an Islay elegance that can no longer be replicated.
In the glass, the Port Ellen 22 Year Old offers a genuinely historic experience: intense, perfumed Islay peat, sea salt, lemon, vanilla and a base of aged oak. On the palate, the texture is smooth and remarkably elegant, with the characteristic smoke perfectly integrated. The finish is exceptionally long, with a persistent minerality.
One of the most historic bottles of the modern whisky era. For the most ambitious collections. Irreplaceable. At The Provenance, you can purchase this bottle with full authenticity guaranteed and secure delivery across the United Kingdom.
